Enso is based on true events. Few incidents in the recent past really moved me and I felt cinema is the way I could address them.

The story is primarily about loss. It is also about the permanent void that is created post trauma with numerous mental health problems. Other layers that I tried exploring were the role of a family and society; the contrast between the youth and old their ways of coping with it; village and city as spaces and how they impact the healing process.

Such stories of suicide / depression are often not spoken about due to the stigma around the mental health illnesses and is always considered negative. That is why I felt it was important to make this film.

To me, Enso is the circle of life and the connectedness of existence. It can symbolize emptiness or fullness, presence or absence, life or death.

Leaving the Enso open ended is like leaving room for the life to flow in and out of the circle of emptiness; allowing it to breathe; to live.
