Prof. A. S. Balasubramanya best known to his professional colleagues as Prof. Balasubramanya and among student community as ‘Balu Sir’ has climbed to the top niches of the journalism profession by his extraordinary talent and merit. He is a well known Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism in the eountry and widely recognized as a role model among the next generation Professionals. Dr. Balasubramanya served as the Chairman, Department Of Mass Communication And Journalism, Karnataka University, Dharawad for over 22 years and established it as a main centre of teaching, training and research in the area of Communication and Journalism.

During thirty-eight years of long span of his professional career, Dr. Balasubramanya has profusely written 48 research articles in journals and other volumes. His publications were analyzed to indicate the fact that he may be eminently referred to as a role model for budding researches in the field. His area of specialization includes Media Production, Media Law and International Communication. Dr. Balasubramanya has guided 21 student for Doctoral degrees and two students for their M. Ph students are currently pursuing their research for Doctoral degrees. He has completed two major and two minor research projects sanctioned by UGC and ICCSR. He has participated in over 30 national and international seminars and workshops and presented papers.
He has served as Member of the UGC Panel on Mass Communication and Journalism for one term and also served as a member of the Karnataka Media Academy for around 20 years. He also served as Syndicate Member of the University.
A recipient of “Chanakya” award by the Public Relations Council Of India for Academic Excellence in February 2013, he was awarded Fulbright Internship in Communication Technology and underwent training in Television production at Syracuse University, USA for eight months during 1990-91. Dr. Balasubramanya visited leading newspaper offices, radio stations and TV studios in New York, Chicago, Orlando, Washington and London and has visited USA, Canada, UK, Russia, Malaysia and Singapore.
