Today is the day to remember and celebrate the life and journalism of V N Subba Rao, the legendary Bangalore editor who lost the battle to cancer at a Bangalore hospital this morning.

For six decades, he was a practising journalist, straddling interests ranging from politics to films and he had the curiosity of a cub reporter even in his seventies. he groomed many reporters, who went onto become stars. His prose had all the colours of the rainbows, even though sub editors baulked at the size and sometimes said there was too much of purple.

My heart goes out to his family sons Murali and Sudarshan, who gave so much of their father so that he could devote his time to journalism and larger society.
