This is a song that won Gulzar a National Award. Interestingly when Gulzar went to R.D. Burman with this song and asked him to compose music for this lyrics R.D. Burman, looking at the long sentences, sarcastically said, “Tomorrow get Times of India and ask me to compose, fine?” Saying so he kept the lyrics aside.
Asha Bhonsle who was present over there picked up the lyrics and while reading it started humming a tune which came to her naturally. Burman picked that tune and composed the tune for ‘mera kuch saamaan’.
I wonder- Was the music in the lyrics? Was it Gulzar who composed music and enveloped it in the lyrics, which was later opened by Asha Bhonsle and then read and written by Burman? May be it is a very romantic interpretation, but still when the roots of creativity is so very ambiguous always we never know where is the roots of it!!!
Gulzar is truly a magician…
