Satyajit Ray and Rabindranath Tagore

Suchitra Film Society, in collaboration with Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy has decided to observe May as a month to remember two great Bengali giants of India – Satyajit Ray and Rabindranath Tagore. The month-long programme will comprise screenings of Ray’s features and documentary on Tagore and a documentary on Ray himself by Shyam Benegal; an evening of Rabindra Sangeet, photo exhibition featuring Ray and a film appreciation workshop. Incidentally, Ray’s birthday is on May 2nd Tagore’s, his 151st, is on May 7th. It is only fitting that on Tagore’s birthday we screen Ray’s own tribute to the renaissance figure. The Ray Study Month is also an opportunity for young film enthusiasts to catch up with some of the master’s best works.
