‘THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING DRAUPADI’

Designed and Directed by
PRAKASH BELAWADI
Duration, with Intermission: 2 hrs, 10 mins
Synopsis: The play is based on the Bheel tribal version of the Mahabharata, with a strong emphasis on the character of Draupadi, critiquing the patriarchy embedded in the traditional notions of ‘Dharma’ and the inevitable consequences of ‘Karma’. This production seeks to balance pathos with irony, ending with fundamental questions about gender roles through the ultimate idea of the ‘Feminine – Draupadi’ and the ultimate idea of the ‘Masculine – Vaasuki (The Serpent Lord)’.
