Kathak Dance Workshop
Vyjayanthi Kashi has roped in legendary Gurus and performers of various styles to conduct workshops on the lines of Guru Shishya Parampara at the aesthetic ambience of Shambhavi Dance Theatre in Kengeri, Bangalore.
After four successful workshops in Odissi, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Contemporary and Chhau dance we now have for you a Kathak Dance
Workshop by Shila Mehta.
Celebrate Dance is one of its kinds and will be educative to aspiring dancers, performers and teachers at various stages of training, performing and choreography.
It is an effort to envisage and inculcate the techniques with emphasis on the significance of expressions, classical music and the rhythms. To help students learn from the
lives of the great guru’s documentaries followed by interactive sessions will be organized.
A brief intro of what one will learn at the workshop:
*The element of storytelling in pure Rhythm.
*Few traditional pure dance compositions & expressions used in Kathak Dance.
*Usage of selective Mudras and Hastaks as per Shastra in Kathak Dance.
*One Dance based on rhythmic compositions and abhinaya on pre -recorded music (can be performed later as a part of the repertoire)
About Shila Mehta,
Shila Mehta, an internationally renowned Kathak dancer par excellence exudes a lot of positive vibrations and energy, is recognized for artistry, eloquence and spirituality in her presentations.
Extensively trained and groomed as an artist with the leading exponents like Late Pt Prahalad Das, Pt Vijai Shankar, Pt Birju Maharaj, Pt Suresh Talwalkar, Pt Chitresh Das, Smt Kumudini Lakhia and Smt Kalanidhi Narayana —
her Solo performances and group choreographies presented all over the world has won her many prestigious awards.
Shila has given numerous performances across India and abroad. Her solo performances have won her many honors and awards. In addition to this Shila has researched and worked on innovative concepts in Kathak,
‘Charani Kathak’ and ‘Chaitanya Yoga’. Furthermore she has also done collaborative work with Flamenco, Jazz and ballet dancers. She is also the founder director of the Nupur Zankar Academy of Performing Arts and Research Center, Mumbai.
