Regional art is global, and global art is business

I loved everybit of Gulabi talkies (Kannada movie) directed by one and only Girish Kasaravalli (GK), although I could see a few short comings. I loved everybit of Umashree’s acting, although I could see a few short comings in others. I loved everybit of use of local Kannada dialect, although I could not understand a few times. Compare this movie with so called very artistic Oscar winning Hollywood movie (e.g.: million dollar baby), or so called very artistic Hindi movie (e.g.: Paheli), then one will understand the importance of so called regional movies. In that sense, these so called regional movies are more global than so called global movies. Unless the art is regional, it can’t be global. The same applies to literature too. Gopalakrishna Adiga appeals more than Aravind Adiga. Shyam Bengal’s Mandi is more real than Slumdog millionaire. I know most of exclusively English reading and Hollywood watching Indian intellectuals will not agree with me. It is not their fault. They don’t know non-capitalistic side of the world and art.
