The Cultural Centre at Berlin, known as The Tagore Centre, was inaugurated on February 5, 1994 by Shri P. V. Narasimha Rao, the then Prime Minister of India. The Tagore Centre has an auditorium with technical facilities to support musical, theatrical and dance events. The foyer at the entrance of the auditorium provides the right ambience for arranging exhibitions.
The Centre presents and show cases the rich Indian heritage and diversity of its culture through a broad spectrum of events like dance, music, literary events, films, talks, podium discussions, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, etc.
Special programmes of the Centre include DIG Chain Tour, Gisela Bonn Award, Saraswati Sanskrit Prize, ICCR Scholarships, support to India-related studies through ICCR-sponsored chairs, etc. Apart from organizing programmes in the Tagore Centre, events are also organized and co-ordinated in partnership with local German and Indo-German societies/cultural organisations all over Germany. The Tagore Centre thus expands its reach and also enhances its interaction with German audiences.
