80-90ರ ದಶಕದ ದಿಟ್ಟ, ಧೀಮಂತ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರೆಲ್ಲ ಏನಾದರು? ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೂ ಪೋಲಿಸ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗುವ ಕನಸು ಹೊತ್ತ ’ಉಡಾನ್’ನ ಬಾಲಕಿ, ಮದ್ಯಮ ವರ್ಗದ ಅನೇಕಾನೇಕ ಕೋಟಲೆಗಳ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿಸಲು, ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿಸಲು ಕಷ್ಟ ಪಡುವ ತಾಯಿ, ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಾಲ್ಯ ವಿವಾಹ ಮಾಡಲು ಸನ್ನದ್ಧರಾಗಿರುವ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ನಿಲ್ಲುವ ತಾಯಿ, ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಾಚಾರದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಹೋರಾಡುವ ರಜನಿ, ನಾವೂ ಸೇನೆಗೆ ಸೇರಬೇಕೆಂದು ಹುರಿದುಂಬಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ’ಫೌಜಿ’ ಯ ವೈದ್ಯೆ, ವಿವಾಹದಾಚೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಗಂಡನನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುವ ಮಹಿಳೆ, ಕೌಟುಂಬಿಕ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ನಿಲ್ಲುವ ನಾಯಕಿಯರು ಇವರೆಲ್ಲ ಏನಾದರು?
ಈಗೇನಿದ್ದರೂ ಶಾಲೆ ಬಿಡಿಸಿ ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಸುವ ತಾಯಂದಿರು, ಗಂಡನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೇಯಸಿಯೊಡನೆ ಒಂದುಗೂಡಿಸಲು ಸನ್ನದ್ಧರಾಗಿರುವ ಉದಾರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಯುವತಿಯರು, ಕುಯುಕ್ತಿ, ಕುಟಿಲತೆಯಲ್ಲದೇ ಬೇರಾವ ಗುಣಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಮನೆತನದ ಒಡತಿಯರು, ಗಂಡನ ಪಾದವೇ ಗತಿ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಶಿರಸಾವಹಿಸುವ ಸತಿ ಶಿರೋಮಣಿಗಳು,
ಆಧುನಿಕ ಭಾರತದ ಸನಾತನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ (ನಾವಿರುವ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಬರದ) ಈ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರನ್ನು ಕಿರುತೆರೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಧಿಕ್ಕಾರ.
The present day TV serials have only two goals, TRP and prolongation of the serial by hook or crook. No director thinks of the agony to which the viewer is compelled to. The only solace is the comedy serials, where there is no story, at least they permit us to laugh at the end of our day and have a good night’s sleep.

There could not have been a more apt statement on the depiction of women today in the never ending meaningless TV serials which consume our prime time in the evenings. More worrisome is the fact that they are all having good TRP ratings. Oh GOD! For how long we have to endure this mediocrity in the idiot box! Thanks again for saying this in so few words Radhika.
